Your memory allocation issue may be due to login class limits. The default class has low limits, while the staff class may be more appropriate to workstation use. Check your limits in Bourne-based or C-based shells with the shell's limit or ulimit command, respectively, if you are already using the staff class.
Intel's i915 graphics' loadable firmware is not used with OpenBSD. I'm not sure why you are seeing the error message in your dmesg(8). A full dmesg() and a copy of /var/log/Xorg.0.log might provide more insight. Last edited by jggimi; 25th October 2018 at 12:57 AM. Reason: clarity |

I believe this firmware has to do with lowpower encoding modes:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...rmware_loading. It does not seem to be enabled in OpenBSD: http://openbsd-archive.7691.n7.nabbl...-td333988.html In OpenBSD, I had issues with lock-ups after hibernation on a AsRock J3355M that resolved after disabling C-states. |

If you don't use it very often, the electrical contacts may have got dirty, maybe try removing & replacing the drive a couple of times if it's a laptop, or the cables if it's in a desktop.

# pkg_add -u ? I ask because cdrecord is a component of the cdrtools package, it is not part of the base OS, and while older packages should still work, there can sometimes be problems due to inadvertant calls to libraries with API changes. Quote:
Limits defined by the user's class are easy to see from the user's shell, using "limit" with Bourne-based shells such as ksh(1), and with "ulimit" from C-based shells such as csh(1). --- For additional clarity, there is absolutely no connection between your graphics chipset and cdrecord's failure. The firmware message is not related to the problem. But, since you noticed the firmware error message, here is what I can see from your dmesg(8): Code:

There seem to be multiple issues.
1) If your cd burner has an sata interface, I do not see that a second sata device in your dmesg 2) Two Video devices: Code:
inteldrm0 at pci0 dev 2 function 0 "Intel HD Graphics 520" rev 0x07 drm0 at inteldrm0 inteldrm0: msi error: [drm:pid0:i915_firmware_load_error_print] *ERROR* failed to load firmware i915/skl_dmc_ver1.bin (-22) error: [drm:pid0:i915_gem_init_hw] *ERROR* Failed to initialize GuC, error -8 (ignored) inteldrm0: 1366x768, 32bpp Code:

You appear to have hybrid Intel/Radeon graphics The intel graphics should work but will not provide the powersaving feature. The Radeon HD 8670M should be supported, with appropriate firmware, in 6.4. |

Sorry, I missed the cd0. One quick way to check for cdrecord problems is to use an alternative cd burner:
cdio(1). After some 6.3 syspatches, I found that I needed to provide the full path to the *.iso file. |

https://linux.die.net/man/1/growisofs from sysutils/dvd+rw-tools uses the cdrecord tool chain. growisofs has an OpenBSD specific section on naming devices: Quote:

No, that file tells you that the -scanbus option won't work on OpenBSD like you tried and to instead manually discover your device.
