Default x11/xf86-video-intel and x11/xf86-video-intel29?

Anyone have any experience which works better?

I installed version 2.9 yesterday, but didn't really notice any difference at first glance (it still feels as if I'm working with a 1MB 3DFX card).

Anyone know why version 2.9 isn't the default?

After some experience and lots of fiddeling I've come to the conclusion that the newer drivers are slightly slower.
Worse, mplayer does't work (crashes X) So it's not really usable.

intel29 works on my acer aspire one netbook while the intel drivers do not. OpenGL is SUPERSLOW, even Eschalon 1 you can barely move your mouse. THis is because there is no GEM support? (waiting for that to come out?)
