Default Software suggestions

I'm using fluxbox and most of apps that I've installed use GTK none wit qt so far. Can someone please suggest me good gtk based Calculator software and notepad software, I'm not a great fan of Xcalc and emacs is fine on CLI but for X I would like something more lite and easy .

Geany is light and full of features. (install with the vte options and you even get a terminal from within the app).
There also is xcalc, part of the xorg stock (and xedit for that matter).

I would suggest Tomboy, if it's as good (or better) then KDE's equivalent it should work fine.

I usually scribble notes into Vim after calling a setup function to prep my personalized 'outline' options since I use few plugins.

Galculator is a nice gtk calculator that doesn't require gnome libraries.

+1 here, there is a "Niki" article related to making Nedit look a tad bit more "aesthetically pleasing".

I'm kinda fond of /usr/bin/vi though, I don't always keep X11 running.. to much eye candy can't be good for your health eh?

Word processors? I would recommend the LyX. The nice Latex'ish piece of software. It suited for me almost ideally when I was (and currently I am) writing the reports and master thesis. Fast learning curve and no nightmares with formatting to name a few. Results are making the eyes happy.

Most of the ports that are part of the XFCE4 window manager are GTK2 based I believe. Their 'mousepad' app is excellent (it'll take you about as far as Windows' notepad will) and I'm sure whatever they use for a calc is handy as well.
