Next release?
Anybody here know how often NetBSD offers new releases?
I tried running NetBSD on my Acer laptop and it worked fine with cable modem. However, I have moved and all I have is wireless with BCM4318. I see that their current manpage has info on for bwi0 so I'm extremely interested in trying it. I tried FreeBSD and OpenBSD, but both have serious problems on this laptop, but NetBSD ran great. Might 6.0 be out sometime this year? Just curious and hoping btw- on very limited bandwidth. Thanks Last edited by unicyclist; 5th July 2011 at 04:23 PM. |

high temp via kate. Fan blew high speed all the time.
fwiw, FreeBSD had problems with the dvd/cd player, and other odd problems that were constantly being written to stdout. Whole screen full of errors and problems. Got tired of that real fast. When I tried NetBSD 5.0 or 5.1 (latest), everything worked, no problems at all...just didn't have connection for my bwi0 |

As much as having dmesg(8) output from successful installations is important, getting configuration information from errant environments is even more useful. |

@unicyclist
I found one older reference for bwi: http://wiki-static.aydogan.net/Bount...2.11g_Wireless It's got a patch that probably went to -current, maybe you could try out the patch on 5.1? If not, just download and try current, or stable.

ocicat, I can't do current right now due to being on a 'prepaid, limited download connection' out here in the country
I run OpenBSD on all my pc's, but they are in storage since I moved. All I have ATM is this laptop. s0xxx, I ran stable, and it was great other than not working with the bcm4318. Again, I don't have the necessary bandwidth to download, build, and install current right now. Thanks everybody. |
