Default Displayport problem with openbsd

external Monitor with Displayport connection to the Dockingstation no dmesg entry
Hi
i have some problems to setup my external Monitor in OpenBSD 5.3
I have a
ThinkPad T420 i5
16 GB RAM
Intel HD 3000 Graphicard
Hitachi SATA 320 GB
OpenBSD snapshot 5.3 from March

first of all startx works fine as root or user if the Laptop was without docking into a dockingstation and no external Monitor is plugged.

My setup at home:
Laptop is plugged in the dockingstation display is closed and an external NEC PA241W is plugged in per Displayport.

what works:
boot from OpenBSD but not at the right resolution 1920x1200

what not works:
when i startx as root or user the Monitor switches on and 2 sec later off strg^alt^backspace wont work so i must make a hard reset

then i try DVI as link

laptop display closed+docked+NEC+DVI

what works:
boot process till prompt is ok only the resolution is not 1920x1200
X works :-) as root and user but the resolution is 1440x900 my Laptop has 1600x900

so i think the problem is the identification of the displayport connection am i right?

archlinux +(.xinitrc) and windows 7 worked with Displayport well

next dmesg,xdpyinfo,xrandr and Xorg.0.log

xdpyinfo and xrandr wont work when linked with Displayport because no X is started
xrandr with Displayport and DVI

i hope i explained it well my englisch is not so good:-)

dmesg

can i fix the problem with the displayport or must i use DVI?
must i take also an .xinitrc to get the right resolution 1920x1200 if yes how should it has to look?

ps: i used in archlinux the same setup with displayport connection it works at default only the resolution
would be the same as my ThinkPad 1600x900 and i used this .xinitrc and than my NEC takes 1920x1200

Code:
#!/bin/sh
#
# ~/.xinitrc
#
# Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)

#virtual desktop:
#xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output DP2 --auto --right-of LVDS1

#when not docked:
#xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output DP2 --off

#docked with NEC:
xrandr --output DP2 --auto --output LVDS1 --off

#when not docked:
#xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --DP2 --off

if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
  for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
    [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
  done
  unset f
fi

# exec gnome-session
# exec startkde
# exec startxfce4
# ...or the Window Manager of your choice

xcompmgr -c &
exec openbox-session

so i found on research that Displayport connections won't work with OpenBSD

i found it here //marc.info/?l=openbsd-misc&m=136314377101542&w=2

so i connect my external NEC PA241W with DVI

could someone help me how to setup my .xinitrc to have this constellations?

If the external monitor is connected AND the laptop lid open -> both displays extended
If the external monitor is connected AND laptop closed -> only external
If the external monitor is not connected -> laptop monitor.

this is my xrandr with connected external Monitor
Code:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1600 x 900, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

   1280x720 60.0

Smile Help may be at hand

About ten days ago I donated an HP monitor to answer this request:
"To help with work on updating our intel graphics support
I'm after a 16:10 LCD with DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort inputs such
as the HP ZR2440w to replace my old 4:3 one which only has DVI.
While we don't currently support any form of DisplayPort it
becomes more of an issue as time goes by as laptop panels
are moving away from being connected via LVDS to
embedded DisplayPort (eDP). "

After a few days I saw this note in a personal message from the developer:
"Thanks, the monitor arrived today and already it has proved useful in
fixing a critical problem in the displayport code."

That should give you some hope but magic takes work and testing so don't necessarily expect instant relief.

I don't have any displayport devices here so I cannot tell you any more but the fact that help is on its way for people who do is why I donate when I can.

More people should...

Thank you, Loki for sharing. Too many tend to ignore the fact that development & progress takes resources. Reminding everyone that progress only comes from putting skin into the game is something worth repeating.

Thank you, again.
