Default BBCode tags for manpage linking

It might be useful if a version could be specified in the BBCode tag for manpage links.

Currently, manpage BB codes are set up specific to the supported project, but only one option can be specified. For example, the online OpenBSD manpage for tar(1) can be specified within vBulletin posts as:

[oman=1]tar[/oman]

...which is then displayed as:

tar(1)

...upon viewing the thread's page. Note that we specify the current release which is bumped at the time new project releases are officially made.

This also specifies OpenBSD's general architectures page. While I understand that your request is to add a second option to specify the platform, searching revealed that a hack for multiple options is available only to registered vBulletin users. Our vBulletin registration lapsed long ago, & funds have never been secured to upgrade the version used here.

Thank you for your suggestion. We will discuss this further in the Administrator section to determine if anyone is interested in figuring out the details themselves.

Tricky. I suppose web links could be used (when it matters). For example, httpd(8) for OpenBSD-5.5 is quite different from httpd(8) for OpenBSD-5.6. If oman generated references are changing over time - automatically updating to point to the current release - that might cause some confusion.... Okay, I'm cool with web links.

Agreed, but it becomes a trade-off, & what addresses the needs of most. Since most posts here are timely & don't age well, pointing to the most current release fits immediate needs. Many also don't want to see, or would be confused by, the content of manpages from many releases ago. "Show me what it is today as that is all I care about..."

The focus is on the relevancy for the majority.

Again, thank you for the suggestion. As you can see, we have to balance a number of issues, target audience, & usefulness for everyone involved.

Sure. And it's a minor technical detail (with a viable and reasonably convenient solution) that I [and other posters] might want to keep in mind if discussing [and referencing] specifics that are/might-be changing.

Isn't closed-source software grand?

The offical FreeBSD forums switched from Vbulletin (proprietary license) to phpBB (GPL). Because of many different issues, they switched again to the proprietary licensed Xenforo.

Having an open source license does not guarantee the software is good

BTW although some people would call it "closed", we have the PHP source code ....
