Default Intel 10Gb card (82598AF) on 6.9

The 82598AF card is supported by the ix driver however dmesg gives this error and the interface does not show up in ifconfig

Any ideas? The card must not like this box as it runs fine under 6.9 in a different HP Z400 box.

Disclaimer: I have no experience with PCI interrupt handling. With that disclaimer out of the way:

The man page for pci_intr_map(9) describes MSI-X as "Extended Message Signal Interrupts" and that it can provide multiple interrupt vectors per device. The failure is on the first vector, number 0.

This doesn't *look* like an OpenBSD bug -- noting my disclaimer above -- it looks like it might be a PCI bus implementation issue on that particular hardware, since you reported that moving the card to a different system circumvents the problem. And, you're already on the last BIOS that HP published for that hardware, so there's no newer BIOS available to update to.

You might post to the misc@ mailing list to see if one of the developers of the driver has a suggestion to resolve. If so, note that the driver hasn't been updated since 6.9-release, so upgrading to -current may not help. But like chicken soup for a cold, it shouldn't cause harm, and would make any patches from developers in response to a misc@ post easier for you to to apply.

Thanks for digging into the code for that error. I just booted into FreeBSD 13 on the non working box and the card is recognized and is able to ping other hosts. I'm crafting an email to misc@
