Default lynx vs links

now, I guess this is a very stupid question, but why is lynx so much slower compared to links? Actually I prefer lynx, it has straightforward unicode support and is part of the system, but it really is much much slower, at least on my installation. Any way to tweak?
Ià'm running openbsd 4.3 on a macmini ppc

I've never used links, but the description seems clear: "displays while downloading" and "displays as it loads."

Lynx is highly configurable. The lynx(1) man page is a good place to start.
