Package availability
How long does it take for packages to become available?
BURP is listed as added on 2018-03-08[0] but pkg_ can't find it. Code:
# pkg_add burp quirks-2.367 signed on 2017-10-03T19:39:42Z Can't find burp # pkg_add burp-2.1.28 quirks-2.367 signed on 2017-10-03T19:39:42Z Can't find burp-2.1.28 # pkg_info -Q burp # |

Building packages is irregular, but it is done once in a few days.
Then it is distributed to mirrors. Some mirrors are updated more frequently than others. Burp is available on http://ftp.hostserver.de mirror.

I've switched over to the CDN mirror, it's worldwide and seems fast for me (UK):
Code:
Puffy:~$ cat /etc/installurl https://fastly.cdn.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD Puffy:~$

Burp is in -current. Package repository for 6.2 was closed a few weeks before 6.2 release. It is not going to be included in 6.2 ports tree.

Ah! Thank you.
I just upgraded to -current now. Is it standard practice to use /etc/installurl or PKG_PATH on -current? Last edited by toprank; 15th March 2018 at 11:23 AM. |

The -releases are fixed and never change. Updates to -release packages are made in the -stable branch, but only to existing applications when there are CVEs or security-related updates from the upstream projects.
http://www.openbsd.org/faq/faq5.html#Flavors Edited to add: the project does not build packages from the -stable branch, they are available as ports only. M:Tier offers -stable packages to the OpenBSD community as a service. https://stable.mtier.org/ Last edited by jggimi; 15th March 2018 at 10:44 AM. |

I think /etc/installurl is favoured but it can be over-ridden by PKG_PATH, I had to do that this morning because -current now declares itself as "6.3-beta" and `pkg_add` tries to get updates from a non-existent directory.
