Thanks very much for your helpful reply. Yes, it worked, with slight modification. At first I could only mount the partitions read-only, which of course prevented installboot from writing the mbr. I followed the suggestion on the screen to run fsck and then it worked.
I'd seen Google references to reinstalling the PBR but I didn't know how to do it. |

The project's official FAQ covers this subject in Section 4.9. As cautioned there, the command: # dd if=/dev/rsd0a of=openbsd.pbr bs=512 count=1 ...may very well not be the correct device node since sd0 may not be the node used on your system. Use of disklabel(8) may help clarify this, & if you have further questions, please feel free asking them in this thread. |
