Default i7 temp. / battery life ?

Hello !

This question is not meaned as complain / compare to other operating systems - it is only, to be sure, that I forgot nothing.

I use in

Code:
#/etc/rc.conf.local
apmd_flags="-A"
and, apm reports a battery status of round 175 minutes and a auto adjustment to 800 MHz. The machine is a ThinkPad W541 with a 9 cell battery and with a i7-4810MQ @ 2,80 GHz (some components are disabled in BIOS).

As temp. sysctl reports (hw.setperf=0 - I changed nothing) after boot 51 degC for all 8 cores and a fan speed of round 1650 RPM which grows to 54 degC for all cores and a fan speed of round 2340 RPM - booth with fvwm as it was installed.

Can I do more ? Is the temp. good / bad / normal (I have no idea) ?

Thanks for your answers.

There are a number of changes to power management and cooling coming for OpenBSD 5.8, which will have a positive effect for your Thinkpad.

http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-misc&m=143425943026225&w=2

OpenBSD 5.8 will be released 1 November 2015. However, these changes are available now in the OpenBSD development branch, called -current. OpenBSD 5.8 development has just completed in the past week, so installing a -current snapshot now will be very close to or just slightly beyond what will be in 5.8.

FAQ 5.1 discusses the development cycle and the flavors of OpenBSD, and is required reading if you wish to consider installing (or upgrading to) a snapshot.

Thanks for your answer.

After playing arround a littlebit with OpenBSD, I will continue with -current instead the before tried FreeBSD as it looks now. FreeBSD is not bad but I find the goals of OpenBSD more interesting.
