As long as the GNU didn't take first, I'm happy :-)

Although I'm surprised so many voted for Tux.

Gnus are a valuable food source in the Serengetti. Actually, I think a penguin is a bit cooler than a daemon. (Get it--penguin--polar--daemon, fires and all--cooler--get it?)

Default Beastie vs Tux

I am not suprised. The reason I choose beastie over tux as my favorite mascot is that if you have a shirt with Beastie on it the people who know what it means it will look cool to them. But the people who don't know what it means it still looks cool.

I was at the airport last Sunday and saw a guy with a large stuffed penguin. It looked like it was something his girlfriend just gave him. I almost asked if it was actually Tux but it was a purple color and I didn't feel like getting blank stares at midnight.

There would be no such issues with beastie.

I never got Tux. How did they come up with a penguin as a mascot in the first place?

I believe that Linux just likes penguins. He was bitten by one at some point. Hrrm, perhaps he becomes one at the full moon.

Despite being bitten by one, he still likes them.
