Apache directory usage?
For those of you running Apache and OpenBsd I was wondering about the following
Q. For a static site, does it matter if the www.domains.xxx's are placed in /var/www OR /var/www/htdocs Q Should just the "Domain's and their respective index.html's" be located together in /var/www with supporting doc's like jpg's and other site supporting docs placed in /var/www/htdocs (our business site is a simple static one with no e-commerce,sql or mail etc) Does it matter ? How do u folks do it ? |

Hi.
Maybe you should read the OpenBSD FAQ - Section 10. Note that in OpenBSD, the Apache httpd(8) server has been chroot(2)ed by default. Also note that the Apache manual is available as part of the man file set, and installed in /usr/share/doc/html/httpd. I think index.html (or index.php) must be installed in /var/www/htdocs. You can create some symbolic links, and then place your files wherever you want 'em to be, but I never tried. Edit : you can also edit your configuration file /var/www/conf/httpd.conf.

OpenBsd and Apache
Thanks for the info.
Yes, I have read as much docs as i an find inside OpenBsd. My questions don't arise as a result of poor OpenBsd docs because that would be untrue as i think they are very good. Confusion and questioning arise from the fact that I am learning. I have read most of the man docs associated with httpd also the fine apache docs in /usr/share/docs/html/httpd etc just wondering what u folks do ..... currently i have 8 virtual servers set up in httpd.conf living in /var/www they have their own directories and within them are all the docs they need. so they look like this /var/www/somedomain.com/index.html and other files like jpg's etc within the same directory that relate to it. Robot and sitemap.txt files are duplicated within the directories which i think should be in /var/www ..........as i am duplicating them the way i am doing it. Of course it does give me control over each and every virtual host's sitemap and robots file. Anyway it works, but if you don't ask u don''t learn...... I am having some dns trouble but i think setting up a /var/www/etc/hosts file will correct some of errors i am getting.. thanks |
