I did not read the interview, but let me nevertheless give you my 2 cents on Linus and git:
  • Linus was very good in reinventing the wheel (Linux).
  • Linus is not very good in being creative (git). I don't f**king understand it and have to permanently google on how to do simple tasks :-/

I have a github account as this is for some open source projects the only way to submit bug fixes. God, there are so many steps involved ...

Are you guys happy with git?

It is many years ago that I played with git, never used it seriously because I am quite happy with RCS.

See https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2 for a downloadable book about git

The first interview gives a fair bit of insight, at least as an overview, into his motivation for git.

Personally, my "revision control system" amounts to putting things in zip files ( ), so git is about the same as all the others to me: opaque.

Some of the folks who learn that the BSDs use cvs (FreeBSD svn?) are quite irritated and state this of the main reason why they are not willing contribute code.

I've read that several times over the years. I doubt that people with this mindset would contribute meaningful code.

There are advantages of revision control systems which zip does not provide.
