I doubt anyone wants a picture of my inline skates. In NYC, only the very rich and very poor have cars.

Or me. We ride all year here in Phoenix. NYC is definitely a different planet.

I'm a cruiser myself, Vulcan 1500 classic.

I don't care much for motorcycles . I'll admit that the things I drive around in aren't really that interesting, but they get me where I need to go.

This is what I normally drive in (it's not mine):
2006 Freightliner Century Class S/T
- Detroit Diesel 60 Series
- Eaton Fuller 10-speed manual transmission

This is mine:
1997 Dodge Ram 1500
- 5.2L gasoline V8 (at least I don't drive it that much )
- 4x4

I for one would rather drive a larger vehicle, because so many people drive like morons. Despite rising fuel costs here in the US, I think I will stick with my Ram for the time being. Honestly, my pickup truck isn't that big.

As for the truck I drive for work, I normally pull a 53 foot trailer which pales in comparison to the road trains in Australia.

Or has Paul Hogan mislead me in some way about the way Aussies look at the size of things?

road trains only run in the desert which is 2 states AFAIK. Most people have never seen one ... i haven't

You'll never see 'trucks' ( as you call them ) the same size in AU as you would in the US, there's just no need for such a huge vehicles here

I've never heard anyone mention him cept the yanks and it's always followed by a stupid question about kangaroos

on the topic of kangaroos - yes - we cull them, yes - we eat them and yes they taste GOOD!

I drive one of these at work http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/cont...ox_410x270.jpg, though the box on the back is only the height of the cab, and the length is several feet longer.

My own car is a 106 that looks decidedly worse for wear and age. It is considered a death trap by insurance companies, not something I feel confident about crashing in, it accelerates slower than a train but it is cheap as chips to run and fix.

Well, Oliver, it's sort of a joke, but in many ways true. The very wealthy can afford cars (and often a driver for them. In Manhattan, parking, insurance, taxes, etc. are rather high, so unless one is making a pretty darn good salary, they often don't have a car. Public transportation goes everywhere, and Manhattan itself isn't all that big--I could probably skate from Harlem, which is at the North end of Manhattan Island to South Street Ferry, which is, oddly enough, at the South end, within an hour and a half.

However, sometimes folks without much money get cars too. They will buy on credit, and do things like put off getting insurance. That's the joke part of it--it's sort of implied.

In reality of course, many people find a car to be a necessity, and even when they don't make that much money, they work and do without other things in order to have one. My line about the very rich and very poor is more of a joke line.

However, many in the lower to upper-middle middle class, whatever that is, don't own cars--they're very expensive to own in Manhattan and there's very little need for them.

It's sort of a standard NYC throwaway line (for non English speakers, in this case, a throw away line means a line said without thinking much about it, a joke or statement that is old and worn out and almost said in reflex.

Well I do not own a bike but a nice car

I own one of these

Not a real picture of my car, same color but I got nicer rims

Yes I don't know anyone of my age driving a "A Klasse" but that's the pleasant reason why the insurance for the car is so cheap
