Default Sata/ICH9R drivers

I just aquired a FS Primergy Econel 100S2:

It has a bad case of ICH9R, bummer. Googling the 'no disk found' error in Sysinstall turned up a fair bit of information, but no definitive advice. So the question is 'Can it (Sata disks on ICH9R, FBSD 7.0) be done, if so how?' TIA

I assume you still mean the ICH9R. I installed 7.0 32 bit on a Gigabyte P35-DS3R, which has the same south bridge. No issues with the install, using either IDE emulation or AHCI for the disks. The DVD used was PATA; the JMicron controller worked just fine too. Sorry I can't help more, but this part worked just as it should.

No luck here in either AHCI or whatever the alternative is (AHCI disabled). No signs in the BIOS of IDE emulation. GRRRRRR (sound of grinding teeth). Thanks anyway. Anyone any other suggestions?

You might try a live CD and see what dmesg has to say.

I'm still struggling with this system. While I am waiting from a 'supported' OS to torrent (RHEL in the guise of CentOs), I though I'd try some 'legacy' OS.

Xp installed OK with AHCI disabled. Win98se couldn't write a new partition table. FreeDos wouldn't install, no error message. I conclude that although FS seem to be selling these off as out-of-date systems, they are too new for FBSD and have no backwards compatibility. I'm beginning to see why they are so cheap.

Serves me right for not researching them beforehand. Such a shame as they ooze mechanical quality. Any ideas for sources of information about these systems, other than the forum on the FS website?

SOLVED.

One BIOS flash later and I'm able to install 6.2 from the CD. (Not 7.1 beta though, but that's probably beta strangeness).

Incidentally, the flash file and utility are available in a file which makes a bootable USB stick. Very useful if you need a bootable USB stick, for any purpose, and are having trouble working out how to make one.

The (Windows) utility is here:
