No multimedia/adobe-flash-plugin or www/firefox-bin-flash...
The flash plugins can't be found when trying to download them, so I'm trying to get it working the way I did when I was using Linux and I installed the newest version of Adobe's site.
I would just unpack their tar.gz and get the libflashplayer.so file, then put that in the mozilla plugins directory. But using NetBSD, I don't have any such directory. I even tried making a Plugins/ directory in /usr/pkg/lib/firefox/Plugins and putting it there, but that doesn't work. What should I do about the Flash plugin for Firefox? What are you supposed to do with the libflashplayer.so from Adobe's tar.gz? I have Linux emulation installed, should I just install it from one of Adobe's other installation versions, like the RPM version? |

You need to learn how to use pkgsrc
Here is your flash http://pkgsrc.se/branch=pkgsrc-2010Q...e-flash-plugin |

I know, I've tried installing both multimedia/adobe-flash-plugin and www/firefox-bin-flash.
Code:
fetch: Unable to fetch expected file flashplayer10_install_linux_070208.tar.gz *** Error code 1 Stop. make: stopped in /usr/pkgsrc/multimedia/adobe-flash-plugin Code:
fetch: Unable to fetch expected file install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz *** Error code 1 Stop. make: stopped in /usr/pkgsrc/www/firefox-bin-flash |

Using Linux, it was easy to just untar Adobe's tar.gz file and move the libflashplayer.so to the Mozilla plugins directory, but I don't have a Mozilla or Firefox plugins directory anywhere, and I'm wondering where that would go. I tried the RPM just now and it gave me a very long list of failed dependencies... and the pkgsrc files are nowhere to be found.

Have you seen and followed the instructions in http://netbsd.org/docs/guide/en/netbsd.html#chap-linux ?
BTW I have to admit that I never install the flash-plugin on any of my BSD machines. In the 10 years that I use BSD, I have seen too many people struggling with flash. If there really is something I want to see I boot into Linux

Okay, I installed www/nspluginwrapper and multimedia/ns-flash and it's working fine now. Thanks for the help.
I read that page, but didn't think to try nspluginwrapper and ns-flash yet because I figured there was an easy way to find or make a mozilla or firefox plugins directory and move the libflashplayer.so there... |

It's easier to pretend flash doesn't exist then to deal with the many kludges around to get it "working".
If you want flash, don't use BSD. |

Isn't there a .Mozilla directory in your home directory? Under Linux I just create a plugins folder in /home/user/.Mozilla/blablax97 and extract the flash plugin in that folder.

tolstoi, this thread is over six months old, & c_moriarty has not logged in since. I wouldn't recommend setting your expectations too high on getting a response soon.

Ah, well, thanks for pointing that out. Guess your right.
