Default Blank screen when resuming from suspend [Current][ATI Radeon HD 6310]

Hi Folks,

Finally created an account here, hoping some of you may be able to shed some light on an issue I'm experiencing. Looking forward to contributing back on the other threads

So, the problem is, as the thread title states, when resuming from suspend, my system has a blank screen. I'm unable to switch tty's, or interact with the system by any means. It seems more than just a blank screen, as the system is unresponsive.

Strangely, suspend was working flawlessly for quite some time, so perhaps a recent change has provoked this.

I'm running current (build time: Tue Apr 8 17:28:01) on a ThinkPad x120e, video card (if this is the issue) is an ATI Radeon HD 6310.

Here's the system's dmesg:

Code:

Thanks in advance!

Hello, and welcome!

This is conjecture, only: I know that pirofti@ was recently looking at ACPI EC events and their effect on suspend / resume. His two patches didn't work for me, and he mentioned in Email response to my results over the last weekend that he was planning to work up vendor specific code for this. Perhaps that code has been worked up? There's nothing in sys/dev/acpi/acpiec.c that's been committed, but there is sometimes uncommitted code deployed in snapshots prior to commit.

Whether your suspend/resume issue is related to Paul's development activity or not, I recommend you report your experience to misc@ or bugs@. You're running a very recent -current.

If you know the date of your last -current system, that may help narrow down the cause of the regression.

Thanks for the swift response, jggimi

Ah, yes, I did see this posted on undeadly, asking for testers. Seems like a somewhat likely candidate. I'll likely try this tonight. I suppose the way I see it: contribute back as a tester, it could render my issue fixed, or, worst case scenario, break stuff, in which case I can reinstall and have my system up and running again in no time.

Unfortunately, I don't recall the previous date of my -current system before upgrading.

Whilst I'll certainly take the above on board, will be testing later and reporting back, I'm still open to any further suggestions, of course.

Well, if you build a kernel, you'll eliminate the possibility of an uncommitted patch.

My contact with Paul was out-of-band and Emailed directly, as the mailing list server was down over the weekend for facilities maintenance. Here is an excerpt from my report:
Code:
... I'm using an Atom N270
on an Asus netbook. This is a 32-bit only uniprocessor with hiperthreading
that cannot be disabled, and I use the MP kernel.

Tested: Your patch of March 26. Result: acpitz0 reports excessive temp (144C)
on boot and the kernel instituted a shutdown.

Tested: Your revised patch of March 28. Result: normal behavior until
suspend/resume. Upon resume, acpitz0 reports excessive temp (144C) and
the kernel instituted a shutdown.

I'm back on the April 2 i386 snapshot, where acpitz0.temp0 is reported as
its usual 57C. Please let me know if there is any additional testing or
reporting I can do for you....

Welcome. This probably won't help much, but my laptop also has HD 6310 graphics, and I had a similar lock up to what you describe back in 5.3. I have not investigated it any further.

Apologies for such a late update on this thread for anyone who was eager/curious to know the outcome. I finally got around to compiling a kernel using the 'acpiec(4) clear events on attach and resume' patch (I'm unable to post links, not enough posts), and, I'm pleased to report, it worked!

I'll get in touch with pirofti@ and let him know.

Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention jggimi
