Some of the UK’s phone number infrastructure relies on Yahoo Groups, which is shutting down

This is 100 percent true, but don’t be worried: they use the group as an email list

Today it was announced that Yahoo! Groups is shutting down, and taking with it a piece of critical national infrastructure: the Oftel Yahoo Group which is used for managing UK phone number assignments.

I'm surprised it wasn't done years ago. Even more years ago, (wow were most of your born I wonder, this has to be from the 90's because I remember my wife being annoyed and not having smart phones, and getting caught up in a thread--but in its heyday it was really busy, and I actually put being the moderator of one of those groups on my resume, because IMHO, at that point they were important. However, I'd have to say that it's been years since I took more than a cusory look at any of them, usually to say, Oh I didn't unsubscribe that?

Anyway, all kidding aside, at one point they meant a lot at least to some peope, and in a way, I'll be sorry to see them go, just as one might cry for the last wolf or bear to be killed in an area.

Forums are still King - they can easily be searched for past info.

Groups & Facebook styles are for the here & now, harder to find what went before.
