Default Mozilla shoots down Thunderbird, hatches new release model

From http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/07...nderbird_dead/

Quote:
Mozilla has announced a new plan for the ongoing development of its Thunderbird email client that it says will provide for a stable product and continued opportunity for innovation

That's all well and good, but the contents of a leaked internal Mozilla memo suggest that the full picture may be less rosy than it seems.

I've used Thunderbird for several years to manage multiple IMAP accounts, as well as older locally stored mail from accounts which no longer exist. Thunderbird development was always directionless and always seemed to be in the shadow of Firefox. At least I won't have to deal with whimsical new changes any more (although I would rather revert to the 2.x pre-tabbed interface). So long as the product continues to receive security updates, I'm fine.
