Default Single instance of VLC player

My question is referring to VLC on FreeBSD, but this may just be a KDE issue.

If I select a folder, right click and Open WIth VLC, it plays the files in the folder in order.

So far, so good.

However, if I select a load of files I wish to play, and then right-click, select Open With VLC it opens an instance of the player for each file.

This is a annoying little hindrance; can this be resolved?
