Default videocard broken?

I have a quite old external usb drive, which today decided to make my whole system die, could not even get in through ssh. I have OpenBSD 4.3 on a macmini ppc. I could only shut it down with the power switch, but on reboot white is not white anymore, it's kind of violet. Not only in X, but also in console. Also some areas of the monitor are not sharp as they were before, and now and then colours change to brighter or darker.
Should this be a software or hardware problem? Is there a software to check the integrity of my videocard?
I'm quite worried really, no money now to buy anything new...
