Default FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE

ISO images are on: ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/re...SO-IMAGES/8.0/ and I have just successfully upgraded my RC3 to RELEASE. No official news yet.

Wow.. I've been waiting for 8.0 RELEASE, I think I will wait a couple of days before I install this though, maybe there'll be more news.

Of course, after the official announcement as usual.

What does it take from RC3 to RELEASE?

@Calderon

Sorry, I didn't quite understand your question?

@DutchDaemon

Yeah, forgot about that.

8.0 works like a charm. It got me a bit confused with changes done in wireless card support. I have an Atheros wi-fi card in my laptop and I needed to create wlan for it in order to make my wireless connection work. All in all, it works really great.

Problems with my USB mouse, SATA CD-ROM drive, and Atheros Gb ethernet are all gone in 8.0. I installed 8.0-RELEASE, csuped to -STABLE and it's going so dang well I'm glad I decided not to dual-boot Windows with it.

Now you can even use Windows under FreeBSD with VirtualBox

Linux is not UNIX! Face it! It is not an insult. It is fact: GNU is a recursive acronym for “GNU's Not UNIX”.

Yes Virtualbox is another thing I'm looking forward to trying.

What I'm most delighted about (within the several exciting updates) is the upgraded Linuxulator. I've been constantly following it since Summer of Code 2008 for someone to update it (since I can't program my way out of a wet paper bag.)

Also Flash 10 in native FreeBSD was pretty much the only concession I had to give Linux users, but no more!

Flash 10 has been working quite nicely for months, I've been using it under f8 and one of my friends with f10; both of us on RELENG_7. Playback can occasionally get stuttering in Opera though.

8.0 - no any problems. Trying 9-current -no problems either. FreeBSD rocks!
