Default Re: TCP acknowledgments on loopback interface

Hi,

In the "What's New" page for OpenBSD 4.9 http://openbsd.org/49.html#new it states:

Quote:
TCP acknowledgments are no longer delayed on the loopback interface.
Could someone explain to me why TCP acknowledgements are acknowledged over the loopback? Is this inherent to all the BSD Network stacks? For example, in FreeBSD, the option log_in_vain=1 will show loopback connection attempts to itself. Or am I misunderstanding something? Regards
