Default OpenBSD 6.5-release has been tagged

The CVS repository has been tagged with OPENBSD_6_5 and OPENBSD_6_5_BASE. This means that development of 6.5 is now complete. Look for a release announcement in the coming weeks.

From the CVS log for src/sys/conf/newvers.sh:

Code:
----------------------------
revision 1.168
date: 2019/04/13 17:35:07;  author: deraadt;  state: Exp;  lines: +3 -3;  commitid: 0Q7VnCO35O1QhpLs;
unlock tree, we are now working on 6.5-current

And this just in. Package builds on the faster architectures have already completed.

A sneak peek at 65.html found some welcome news at the bottom.

Note that most ports are available as packages on our mirrors. Updated ports for the 6.5 release will be made available if problems arise.

Don't interpret this as something new. The Project has been producing -stable ports to address resolved CVEs for many years. Packaging those ports is not performed by the Project. That's left to the user community to perform individually.

While there are always two releases in active support, -stable ports are only produced for the most recent release.

(Yes, M:Tier provides -stable packages from these ports as a service.)

Welcome news indeed!
I doubt Theo will release 6.5 on the Easter weekend. I suspect 6.5 may arrive this week. Idle speculation on my part.

From here, it looks like the mirrors are currently populated for select architectures, and that more are sure to follow.

I expect an announcement on or about May 1, which is the historic date for releases in the second quarter of the year. Whatever my expectations, the Project's announcement will only come once the mirrors are fully ready.

And, Theo posted just now on announce@,
Quote:
OpenBSD 6.5 builds finished a week early, so the May 1 dated code can
go out the door 1 week early.
Here's a link to the announcement, with nice art!

I finished upgrading all my staging and production servers this morning. While they're usually straightforward, this was perhaps my easiest upgrade in memory. Only one minor provisioning change on one platform where I use www/goaccess.
