Default External USB hard drive not spinning down after 6.4 upgrade

Hi everyone,

After upgrading my APU router from 6.1 to 6.4, the external USB hard drive doesn't spin down any longer. This is device sd2 in the attached dmesg output. In the past, I don't recall doing anything special which caused it to spin down.

Some searches brought back info about the atactl command, but that's for wd devices and I've not found anything similar for sd devices.

Thank you for any ideas.

The scsi(8) command is the analog for sd(4) devices. There's an example of a "spin down" command in the man page, which I just tested here with an external USB drive. It worked on this one.

Thank you, that does work, except after a moment the drive spins back up. lol

This is the first release I've had this happen. The drive is only used during nightly backups and I can find nothing that's accessing it outside of those times...

Try unmounting the drive before spinning down.

Ah ha! That did it. After remounting the drive, after some time it did spin down again.

Thank you for your help.
