Ah! OK, I think I understand. The interface was not "up" until after dhclient was executed.

Thank you. This is a bug in my script that you have discovered. It appears there are some circumstances where an interface is not "up" during initial scans. I must change the script to mark the interface up before examining carrier status.

If I modify the script and create a test .iso - would you be willing to test it for me?
