Default BMPx problem

Hi guys.
I've been experimenting with various media players (audio). All worked well except BMPx. When I launched it from the main menu I got this:

Then I tried % dbus-launch beep-media-player-2 and the result was:

Any ideas?

enable dbus in rc.conf
Code:
dbus_enable="YES"
and try then....
idk if it will help....
BMP is pretty buggy thing.... I was using it myself but gave up and switched to mplayer.... which rock in so many ways

Nah. The same output. It's not so critical anyway.

You can also try compiling BMPx without HAL.

Are dbus-daemon and hald actually running?

To get them both running at boot time, you must add to /etc/rc.conf:
Code:
dbus_enable="YES"
hald_enable="YES"
To get them running without rebooting (run in this order since dbus must start before hal):
Code:
# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/dbus start
# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/hald start

First I tried to run BMPx under Openbox and got only the second message. Then I followed BSDKaffe's suggestions (thanks ). As a result the program runs under Openbox without any problem so far, but under XFCE i still have to use
% dbus-launch beep-media-player-2
I must have turned off DBUS support in one of XFCE ports during compillation.

I am not familiar with XFCE, but you probably need to adjust your ~/.xinitrc so that a dbus session is available to your applications.

You may want to try an ~/.xinitrc that looks like this:
Code:
/usr/local/bin/dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session /usr/local/bin/startxfce4
eval `dbus-launch`
export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS DBUS_SESSION_BUS_PID
It's BSDKaffee BTW - German coffee, not Italian
