Default Awant Window Navigator for Xfce under FreeBSD?

I'm trying to get my xfce4 panel look like this:
http://www.lynucs.org/index.php?scre...74844&p=screen

I'm talking about the panel at the bottom of the screen with all these icons.
I started a thread at the Xfce forum and the guys there told me that I should use Awant Windows Navigator. After searching the ports tree with no results I'm asking you for some additional info if there is a port for AWN for FreeBSD?

Thanks!

Most Linux distributions don't even have that package. It's a work in progress. You need to have Compiz-/Fusion working before you can even get it to remotely work. I tried it on Debian, and it was fine, but it had too many glitches to my liking. More than likely, you will need to install Compiz-/Fusion from Ports and then manually compile this from source.

Thanks for your reply!

I tried installing compiz-fusion from the ports tree, but I'm having troubles installing its dependency fusefs-kmod as I described in this thread of the forum:
http://daemonforums.org/showthread.php?t=1891

How can I fix this fusefs-kmod port - it keeps crashing my system

Have you tried building compiz without FUSEFS and without GNOME support?
Even with GNOME support, gvfs can be configured to not use FUSEFS.

I want to install compiz-fusion for the Xfce4 desktop, I don't really need all the gnome dependencies. How can I install compiz-fusion without the gnome and fusefs dependencies? When I go to /usr/ports/x11-wm/compiz-fusion and type make config I only see four options to configure:

[X]EXTRA Enable extra plugins
[ ]UNSUP Enable unsupported plugins
[X]EMERALD Enable emerald window decorator
[X]GCONF Enable the gconf backend

I don't have any options for the fusefs and gnome dependencies ports to exclude from there. Where to look for them and exclude them?

Thanks!

EDIT: It seems that the problem was that I haven't build my userland. I've just build a kernel without updating the userland, so after make buildworld and make installworld fusefs is now installed successfuly.

Now I'm continuing to install compiz-fusion. Btw, would there be some problems to run compiz-fusion with my ATI HD2600PRO - I know that the radeonhd driver does not support 3D for this card, but I don't want the 3D effects, just some minor effects like the panel I mentioned?

I have successfully installed compiz-fusion and read the article about configuring it, but I get some error which after googling a while seems to be very common.

This is the article for configuring compiz-fusion:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/articl...ion/index.html

And this is the error I get when trying to start it using the commands in the above article:
Code:
> compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp &
[1] 50096
> compiz (core) - Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
I'm running under the Xfce4 desktop with an ATI Radeon HD2600 PRO. Searched the web using google, but didn't find any solution for the problem - most of the solutions are linux related.

Thanks for any help/advice!

Unfortunately, your video card does not have any 3D acceleration under FreeBSD at the moment.

The radeon and radeonhd drivers support 3D acceleration up to the x1950 (r100 through r500). Your card is the next generation (an r600 family card). Under linux, that card would be supported by the fglrx driver, but that is not available under FreeBSD.

There is work being done to support 3D acceleration on the r600 family of cards with Mesa, but there is no ETA for a functioning driver yet. At best guess, there might be something ready by the end of the year.

Thanks, Adam for the good explanation.

I like my FreeBSD system and I don't want to migrate to Linux.

I guess I'll just have to wait till a decent driver with 3D is available for FreeBSD..

Thanks again!

You might want to check out wbar, that is in the ports. There is kooldock also - not sure of port status.

The options are in x11-wm/compiz which is a runtime dependency of x11-wm/compiz-fusion.

Actually that panel at the bottom is SimDock.

You can find it in /usr/ports/x11/simdock.
