Yes, please show us the output of 'df -u' and let us know your hardware specs. Is it possible your swap partition is not mounted? Check with 'swapon -s'

Could there be something useful in /var/log/messages?

I am using FreeBSD 7 on ThinkPad R61i 1.5 Ghz Core2Duo with 2.5 Gb.. and the system with KDE is like a bird. I have never seen the OS loading/loading apps/shutting down so fast!!
Consider looking for the hardware you have.
