Default Windows Aren't the Right Color

I've been setting up tmux(1) and I can't get any of the "colours" to work. All else seems fine. Has anyone else had this?

I've never had problems with tmux and colors.

Can you elaborate what exactly your problem is? What colors? Which application? What do you see?

One generic hint is looking at your TERM environment variable. Try setting it to xterm-color or xterm-xfree86

Thank you, the problem was being caused by a typo. I had set RERM not TERM lol.

There seems to be another couple issues with this thing. When I do
Code:
export TERM="xterm-xfree86"
vi and the tmux don't display correctly (I can't see most of what is going on). I must use "xterm-color" to make it display correctly.

Also the options message-command-bg, message-command-fg, message-command-attr don't work.
When I start tmux it tells me
Code:
 /etc/tmux.conf :"#": unknown option: message-command-bg
and so on. Is this suppose to be this way?

So just use xterm-color (Or does that have some other problem?)

My tmux (version 1.5) doesn't have these commands either. Are you sure they're the right commands for your version?

When searching tmux(1) with message- I do get the message-attr, message-bg, and message-fg commands. I assume this is what you're looking for?

No, just thought someone might be interested to know.

I'm using the version that came with 5.0. I am unaware of how to check it's version number.

That was the entire out put? The lower case v does verbose.

OpenBSD's tmux was imported about 2.5 years ago. It has received constant commits ever since. I do not know how much divergence there is between the implementation in OpenBSD and that which may be on other OS platforms. One thing the OpenBSD tmux omits is a "version" option.

Thanks for some of the back story on that.
