I am thinking about installing NetBSD in an old ViaC3 laptop that has some issues with NetBSD. I think 4.0.1 will install if I follow these instructions.
I looked up the bug report and this issue was thought to have been fixed in more recent releases (attempted 5.1.2) but I still loose my console during installation. I know that 4.0.1 uses Xfree instead of Xorg and my question is if the binary snapshots (2011Q4) are compiled with Xfree or Xorg and which would be likely to lead to a working lightweight desktop. The laptop uses the old Sis630 video driver and the rum usb wireless dongle is supported in 4.0.1 |
