Default Trouble changing the resolution in X

After installing xorg from the ports collection, I noticed that the resolution was set to 1024x768. I tried to change the resolution in a number of ways whether it be through editing xorg.conf or using xrandr, but nothing seems to be solving this problem for me.

Here is the output for when I run xrandr:

Code:
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768
default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1024x768 85.0*
   800x600 86.0
   640x480 86.0
It seems that 1024x768 seems to be the maximum resolution according to the output, but I know that my screen can support higher resolutions.

On FreeBSD 9.0 you can only use the vesa driver on recent Intel GPUs, which is why you are limited to the resolutions you see.

On FreeBSD 9.1, you should be able to build Xorg with support for intel KMS, and use your monitors native resolution.

In that case, I guess I'll have to update then. Thanks for the help.

9.0 will be EOL in less than 3 months so it's a good idea anyway.

EDIT: By the way, are the 9-STABLE packages GEM/KMS compatible. I guess they are, since GEM/KMS is enabled by default in the ports tree, right?

Thak You.I also experienced a similar problem.Whenever I use the command
Code:
startx
or while switching to tty for CLI(Even after running
Code:
shutdown -p now
command),My monitor shows a message
Quote:
Not optimum mode, recommended mode 1600x900 ,60hz
and restarts the computer without properly shuting down. This causes something similar to fsck in Linux (A newbie in both Linux and FreeBSD).Reinstalled FreeBSD again.
