Default Perl programming language marks 25th birthday

From http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/12...25th_birthday/

Quote:
Perl, the open source programming language used by developers and sysadmins to automate any number of text-wrangling and data-management tasks, celebrates its 25th birthday on Tuesday.

It was on December 18, 1987 that Larry Wall released Perl 1.0, posting the source code to the Usenet newsgroup comp.sources.misc.

Happy Birthday Perl!

A part of me still wants to try to find a job in one of those places that uses Perl for a really large application going against the cliche that it's only for little data munging one offs and web pages. But I'm too afraid of this being a dead end for me careerwise. C++ seems a safer work niche from what I can see in local listings.
