Default This is what I ask people when I meet them.

"What are your creative abilities and technical talents?"
"What is your favorite social science?"
"What is your favorite science?"
"What is your favorite math?"
"How good are you with computers?"

I then explain to them that, "You are given these talents and abilities to provide for yourself and others and to give back to the planet."

After this, I make suggestions for programs on Open Source systems.

They are informed about the CPU, OS, and other parts.

I show them the mailing lists and forums.

I also tell some not to over react as I have.

Me:
Hi, nice to meet you.
You:
What are your creative abilities and technical talents?
Me: (Edging away), Errrm nothing, I'm dead inside.

I'm assuming some context is missing here. Otherwise, if these are the first things you ask, you may be missing out on some very worthwhile people who simply aren't into tech.

At which point I would be thinking, "Great. Another Christian proselytiser." And would be looking for an escape route.

I agree with scottro that some major context is missing, because if this was how you began conversations, no one would speak to you.

I am not a Christian nor am I affiliated with any religious belief.

You are quite correct, it is not the way conversations are started by me. Simply,
after a few moments, these ideas are segued into openly and honestly.
People need positive encouragement and diplomatic honesty. I provide these; and, I also admit to my foolishness and mistakes upon the internet.

I am friends with a few people who work for NASA at Wallop's Island.
NASA recently open sourced their software that they have. How do you think that happened?
The project director is a nice man who runs for charity. I asked him if he could ask NASA to open source some of their software. He asked his director; and, she made things happen.

In the software is the S4 virtual software that should be run from a SPARC64 machine to make a graph of the ocean and other things.

He told me that the planet is in grave condition and things need to be done.

He knows what is going on with the weather and everything.

I am also friends with programmers there and learned some from a former naval officer that works for Lockheed Martin.
I was introduced to positive hacking by one of the men who investigated 9-11 in Hollywood , Florida.

I started learning forensics from a marine.
