You're welcome, Mike. I'm a firm believer of the application driving the architecture, and the architecture driving the OS. (Just because I like OpenBSD doesn't mean it's the right hammer for every nail.)

A couple of additional points:
First, there is a Solaris/OpenSolaris subforum here: http://www.daemonforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=33 -- It is low volume, feel free to jump in with both feet.
Second, the BIGMEM limitation which I mentioned was just discussed on misc@ today. Here's what was said by a user, and in reply, a developer. While you are no longer interested in OpenBSD, the technical description of the 3GB limitation may be of interest to you or other readers.
The user wrote:

I know bigmem is still in a state of flux and can be enabled by editing
machdep.c and compiling a custom kernel.

I also realise that it may or may not work on OpenBSD AMD64 due to the
absence of an iommu on non VT-d capable Intel systems, aside from the
AGP/PCI-e GART.

What's the best way to test and report this?....

none. bigmem is known broken, otherwise it would be enabled by
default. and tests proving the fact, well, you could test that water
is wet, too.
