The bootloading scheme is set by your motherboards bios. Usually gpt/uefi can be set to read an MBR partition so they are effectively backwards compatible.

NetBSD can be installed either gpt/uefi or MBR. Download the regular image for gpt/uefi and the "bios" image for MBR
