One of the 1st things I install everywhere is
w3m, but mainly to have
w3mman. Apart from making man-pages sexy again, accessing the occasional external WWW references in them is possible, unless it's too heavy blingbling for text mode.
For WWW, Gemini and Gopher I use
elpher and
eww in
emacs or
elinks.
FTP? Yes they can... in
emacs you would use
dired, just write your URLs in
tramp style.
elinks even can do FSP!
In most cases I'm using
emacs as text mode browser. But there are reasons for me to have the others too.
