Default FreeBSD 7 Gnome problems

Well as the topic states I'm a newbie and I've installed Gnome.

However I've been trying to change the layout of the keyboard but it keeps sending me back to US one even though the one I want is sellected and defaulted. I believe it's something to do with the xorg.conf file that is setting me to US layout.

However I can't find xorg.conf anywhere, even used locate and nothing found. I didn't use the Xorg -configure (or something like that) to get the X working, when I've installed it via ports it was working already. Should I still type Xorg -configure?

Other problem of mine is to change the default window manager for gnome, trying to change to the Sawfish one but keeps giving me an error:

#killall metacity; sawfish &
error--> (error "sm-open-connection" "Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed")
