i got this error on freebsd update,some hint?

You're probably updating a FreeBSD version that can't be updated using this method. If your

uname -r

output does not mention '-RELEASE' or '-RC", freebsd-update can't update it.

then...how to update -HEAD?

If you're running -CURRENT (which sounds rather ambitious if you don't know that freebsd-update is limited to -RELEASE ), you will have to do source upgrades by using csup(1) to synchronise the source tree and the instructions in /usr/src/Makefile to build the kernel and the operating system.

If you feel I am pushing you towards FreeBSD 8 rather hard, then this is because you will have a much better experience with fewer problems using FreeBSD 8.
