Default Jabber IM option...

Same issue over at *buntu forums...

It's really annoying to only have cruddy closed IM services as options for input...

there needs to be a jabber one, till then, it's going to live in my signature

oof, actually it isn't working carpetsmoker!

I put my AIM in for now...

But it really is important to get that up....

EDIT: You can look at my posts to see if it's working...

I placed my jabberID into the field in my control panel

No, I didn't add it to the postbit template, I'm actually considering removing all the IM icons in order to conserve space...

It does show on your profile, wrong tab, I know, but I'm not sure how to add it to the Contact info tab, I will look at it later...

I doubt the space saved would be much unless your using lynx for web browsing. But I don't have a problem with seeing them go either.

I have accounts with like 6 or 7 networks but only set any of the details on forums that I care about ;-)

It is to the extent that we listen to the users' ideas and input and then put that into action.

The space saved would not be enormous, but if users decide that they want to contact a certain person, is likely he is going to go to a profile to find contact information. This does not, however, necessarily mean that we are going to take away the icons.

I was thinking the exact same thing earlier today, wubrgamer. XMPP seems to be fast becoming the preferred IM protocol amongst FOSS users/advocates and it seemed strange not to have that option in our CP.

Hey, at least it is an open protocol for a change ;-)

XMPP might not be perfect but I'd still take it over OSCAR any day.

Yes, it is. As I already said its growing popularity makes it surprising that it's left out - regardless of vBulletin's license.
