Default Which command line web browser?

I've returned to OpenBSD just for a while, (I keep ending back on Linux full time, but I also like BSD & want to keep my hand in), this time around, I want to try & just use the command line.

So my question to you regulars is, which command line web browser do you consider the best to install & (hopefully) learn

I don't like to use it -- but when forced to I use lynx -- because that is the one I started with and I don't want to learn to use another.

Not really a command line browser, but there is this:

http://goosh.org/

I did hear some people use wget(1) or curl(1) in some manner, I lack details. Me I use lynx and even once in a while emacs eww

lynx for me too, I use it a lot, even under X. I would probably call it a "text-based browser" though. "Command line" seems to fit better for URL grabbers like wget and curl.

w3m here, have it set it up with url hinting mode and mouse support. Then there's rdrview for extra filtering.

Why i chose w3m over lynx is because the setup is more how traditional graphical webbrowsers work. Each to their own.

Thanks folks, I have installed lynx, because it was one I tried before, but I don't think it the best.

Only once tried w3m, so I might go give that another try.

Default The last real browser is named emacs.

One of the 1st things I install everywhere is w3m, but mainly to have w3mman. Apart from making man-pages sexy again, accessing the occasional external WWW references in them is possible, unless it's too heavy blingbling for text mode.

For WWW, Gemini and Gopher I use elpher and eww in emacs or elinks.

FTP? Yes they can... in emacs you would use dired, just write your URLs in tramp style.

elinks even can do FSP!

In most cases I'm using emacs as text mode browser. But there are reasons for me to have the others too.

@yeti , yeah having urls in manpages is sweet, ditto for markdown files.

I'm using bitmapped fonts aswell for that extra crisp.

Sweet setup you got going there.

I use www/w3m for 2 reasons:
  1. It is a dependecy of mail/nmh
  2. It works well in mail/mutt for html emails

Hi Sehnsucht94,

You got me interested in edbrowse because it looks like it supports a little javascript, unlike every other terminal-based browser. I read edbrowse documentation online, played with it briefly, but remain confused. Would you please spell out the commands to read the front page of https://daemonforums.org using edbrowse?

I'm thinking I should:
# edbrowse https://daemonforums.org

It prints 2 numbers, doesn't display anything, and then waits for me to enter a command. When I enter "r" to "render" or "b" to browse the results, it effectively tells me I'm already in browse mode. But, there's still nothing on the screen.

I'm doing this within the console. Shouldn't it work there?

Please advise.

Thanks.
