No JS youtube alternative

Written in python, no javascript required to watch youtube videos.

It works great for me, but sometimes I get the error

Doesn't work for me either or at all, depending how you put it.

If you don't mind javascript there's always https://invidio.us. Select one of the instances in the list by clicking on "Go →" and it'll redirect you.

And if you do mind js, pkg_add youtube-dl is another alternative which I use frequently.

It works now. It's much faster than invidio.us instances, invidio.us was developed in Crystal programming language, which very few programmers use, main developer of invidio.us is no longer working on the project.

Nope, still doesn't work for me. But I get a different error msg, so at the very least it doesn't get boring:

No video with supported format and MIME type found.

Fortunately though, the author has included a click-through link to invidio.us where I can select an instance. When I click on that, I can watch the video sans problemes.

There is also Minitube if you would rather avoid the web browser. It's available on OpenBSD.
Requires a little bit of setup but once set up gives you all the usual conveniences of the YouTube webpage.

NewPipe for Android is probably the most popular front end without reliance on web browser.

Freetube is an electron app. It is written entirely in JS (and embeds its own complete version of Chrome, super cool).

I actually didn't notice and was about to check out the code when I read CiotBSD's post. But after realizing the download was over 100M I changed my mind, lol. Probably won't be long before someone tries to sneak in the entire youtube backend datacenter code into an electron app or sth. Somewhere between "640k is enough for everyone" and this there must be a sane middle ground.

Gnu/Linux or FreeBSD (not tested, but seems to be included in ports) alternative:
YouTube plugin for Kodi. Kodi is not light for resources, but it is not written in JS nor it is written by Google.
