Question DragonflyBSD

Hi everybody,

I installed the last snapshot of DragonflyBSD in Virtualbox.
After the installation, I could not boot in the Virtual Machine and VirtualBox asked me the DVD to boot!

Do you know what is the problem?

Thank you all,

As far as I know, there are not any DragonFlyBSD users here, but .........

It is a long time since I last played with DragonFly. So the next is kind a shot in the dark ......

You could try to boot into the DVD and boot the rescue system which used to be selectable from the installer menu. Or boot into the installer and request a shell. Then use the fdisk or gparted utilities to check whether the disk contains the DragonFly files.

A common issue with FreeBSD and probably also DragonFly is the contents of the /etc/fstab file. You may have to adjust the disk numbers there.

Thank you for your response,

I found that DragonflyBSD is not support UEFI boot (after installation) as of now. I changed the installation from UEFI to legacy and found that my problem was resolved.

I hope the DragonflyBSD developers resolve this problem as soon as possible.

I've generally managed to install DragonFly BSD with GUI. The following relatively small issues remain:
  1. Firefox plays audio/video only if open in a new tab or if file or URL is specified from the command line.
  2. Logout from Lumina freezes with white screen (xdm) or turns display off (pcdm).
  3. Telegram issues in Firefox: slow scrolling (with big lag) and choppy video playback.
I'm skeptical that I'll be able to fix these problems by myself and will be grateful to anyone who can help.

You may need to enable GPU acceleration in Firefox for better video playback.

If you mean disabling the "Use recommended performance settings" in "General Settings" and enabling "Use hardware acceleration when available", both are done (Firefox is version 131). The problem exists only in Telegram. Maybe the video encoding algorithm there is newer and is not supported by the "i915.ko" from 30-Dec-2022. (Neither GhostBSD/FreeBSD, nor HardenedBSD, nor OpenBSD, nor NetBSD have this issue - only DragonflyBSD.)

By the way, Solaris 11.4 (2022) is even worse - not only scroll is slow in Telegram, but Tlegram videos don't play at all, because, as Firefox says, necessary codecs must be installed (obviously missing in that older Firefox version).

Yes this is what I meant. I didn't remember the name of these options on the top of my head.

I think your analysis is correct, the codecs used by Telegram might not be supported yet.

I know OpenBSD better (although not much) and many times I've read about changing the login class (see login.conf(5)) to get better resources allocated to your user.
