If you install using:
portinstall <portname> Then you upgrade the port by using: portupgrade <portname> You should be using the command: portsnap fetch update To download all the new ports and updates to ports. And you can run portversion -v -l "<" to see what ports of yours need upgrading. All as root of course.

Ahh same question was basically posted on pcbsd.forums.org today.
Note that PC-BSD 1.5.1 does not include ports-mgmt/portupgrade out of the box, you'll have to install it manually before you can use portupgrade and it's commands (portsnap is however in the base; and unrelated to portupgrade). The easiest way is to open a root shell and: # pkg_add -r portupgrade
