Default Do you suggest Acer Aspire 5 for OpenBSD?

Dear Users,

Hi after a long delay.

Could you please tell me your opinion about this laptop for using OpenBSD on it?

The processor and iGPU should be supported from at least v7.1 onwards:

https://dmesgd.nycbug.org/index.cgi?do=view&id=6590

The sticking point is likely to be the wireless card. Your provided vendor link doesn't specify the card in question so it's difficult to say if it will work or not. If there is a shop selling them local to you perhaps try loading up the OpenBSD installer on one of them and check if the wireless interface is recognised.

Dear Matthew,
Thanks for the input. I checked the support page for the wireless card and found different drivers for wireless card.

1-MTK MT7921LE
2-Intel AX201
3-Atheros NFA344 HAI

So it can be any of them.

Could you please tell me
-Are they compatible with OpenBSD?
-how do you check the compatibility of any component with OpenBSD generally?

Edit: I only saw Intel AX201 on dmesgd.nyc.org, MT7921LE and NFA344 HAI not available on results.

You can find the wireless devices supported by OpenBSD here :

https://man.openbsd.org/?query=wireless&apropos=1 which is the web equivalent of doing
Code:
apropos wireless

The only WiFi 6 supported chipset seems to be the Intel AX201.
