Is there a liveCD [ not an Install CD] using openbsd?

less than 700mb. I've found several online but the links are expired or the .iso is not available for download, or, the liveCD link contains an Install CD description.

Sorry if it is too big, (I always use pendrives), but some CD Burner software can 'overburn' a disc more than 720MB - maybe give that a try - or perhaps try using 'plop'.....

It's true. I produced and published i386/amd64 LiveCD/LiveDVD images based on OpenBSD, and kept them up to date for about a decade. There were four varietals: base, XFCE, KDE, and Gnome. I stopped producing them many years ago, for these key reasons:

1. USB mass storage devices became ubiquitous, inexpensive, and anyone could install and provision the OS onto a USB device exactly as desired -- if a little more slowly -- as they would install and provision onto any internal disk drive. While not a read/only option, these bootable USB sticks were -- and still are -- readily portable to machines of the same architecture.
2. Optical media drives stopped being commonly provisioned as an included peripheral with laptops and desktops. They had to be purchased as an option, and were becoming USB-attached anyway.

Combined, these factors meant that there was no longer a significant market for these "live" images, nor a significant need.


Present day USB 3.0 attached SSDs are perfectly acceptable and performant disk drives. I have one with Windows installed on it for when I need to boot that OS from this laptop.

I just installed OpenBSD 7.3 on a 64 GB Sandisk USB stick/pendrive. Being an USB 3.0 device it runs rather fast on the USB 3.0 port of my 10 year old HP Proliant Server, that I use as my desktop.

This post has been written after having pkg_add(ed) chromium to the USB stick. Like jggimi mentioed, the performance is acceptable.

Finally, found devuan minimal, met space, booting, etc requirements. Only had to lookup the login passwords, choosing the first live cd menu item on the CD, and even a usable nano is available. [ no hard disk nor usb boot ]

Oh, there are lots of Linux distros......just not a lot of OpenBSD, (or any other BSDs).
