Hi all,
So Skype is working on FBSD, but without a cam. Is there any other solution you all use that is similar to Skype (IM + cam)? |

Ok, so I learn all visitors here are CLI-nerds without any interest in communicating with other people the 2010 way, but instead are wasting their time tuning kernel parameters to impress their fellow nerds using letters via postal male

There is/was an Open H.323 project. I never used it in a serious way, but if all else fails ...

I don't know the situation on FreeBSD for webcams, but OpenBSD supports UVC devices through uvideo(4).
OpenBSD also includes a V4L2 compatibility library, this allows applications written for Linux to be natively compiled on OpenBSD.. which is multitudes better than using binary emulation. On OpenBSD, I believe the only user friendly video conferencing software is Ekiga as referenced above by shep. Eventually in the future OpenBSD's Pidgin port will support audio/video, but there is some framework issues at the moment that need to be worked on. |

The only software along those lines that I have used, is a Windows program called Eyeball Chat. Since Skype is proprietary, I would check out Ekiga and Empathy. The former afaik, is the only program that supports my usual cross-platform needs. Generally, I rely on TeamSpeak for VoIP needs: since I don't have a webcam, nor do I usually wish to be "Seen". A better cross platform solution would be Mumble: if webcams are not in the picture so to speak.

Reviving old threads simply to denigrate other operating systems you hate is not reason enough to revive old threads.
