Default UNIX terminal re-thought for today's times

Linux is not UNIX! Face it! It is not an insult. It is fact: GNU is a recursive acronym for “GNU's Not UNIX”.

Looks like every comment on that blog with even a slightly critical opinion is deleted. Pretty lame :/

His mention of bitmapped displays and tone of the article suggests to me he's read Rob Pike's paper on acme. But he completely lost me when he got to the point of using webkit as a backend. The screen shots and modeling on OS X don't look like particular progress either.

To be honest, the terminal gives me goose bumps, in a good way ... I like using the terminal, it's fun.

PS: In my case, if I want to use something graphical to manage, either locally or remotely, a Linux or *BSD station I use Webmin. That tool is more than enough.

Try acme sometime. It's fun in a similar way. Use the real thing or the inferno based one rather than wily, which hasn't managed the fine points well enough to give the idea justice.

The guy has the right idea to question the terminal interface, but isn't drawing upon the right examples.

Well, it's an experiment. To see what works and what doesn't ... Nothing wrong with that.

I actually like the idea, and I think it would make for an interesting future. Either way if my terminal still works in 2050 and I can still see to use vi.... I'm good :-).
