Default How to watch videos on Firefox

Hello,

I can't watch videos on Firefox, when I try with one the CPU usage shown by top is +100%, the video lags and Firefox crashes.
The same video with mplayer fullscreen: max 17% CPU usage.

Is anoyone can watch a video on Firefox with a reasonable usage of the CPU ?
Is it because openh264 has the mention "will be installed shortly" ?

Thanks

I looked your dmesg and you are running 883. That is honest to God current which will become 5.8 1st of November. That thing is unstable like a hell. I am running 5.7 release snapshot which is epsilon close to May 1st release and it is rock stable.

OpenBSD oko.bagdala2.net 5.7 GENERIC.MP#881 amd64

I missed release snapshot of 5.6 just like you did with 5.7 and run for about 3 months some 5.6 current snapshot(of what is now going to become 5.7 release). It was peace of crap.

My advise is that you stick to release. It is also possible that it is Firefox issue. I am running on this box Firefox 35. Firefox 31 was crashing all the time on OpenBSD and even on Springdale linux is freezing off and on. (Our workstations at work have 32 GB or RAM so I am pretty sure we should have enough memory). This OpenBSD box has 16 GB of RAM.

Hello thanks for your reply

Yes I forgot to say, I'm on OpenBSD 5.7 GENERIC.MP#883 amd64.

I tried on OpenBSD 5.6 and current today, but it's the same problem.
Xombrero, Chromium, Firefox31/ 35: videos lag and hight CPU's usage.

Can you watch a video correctly on Firefox?

Thanks

Yes I can. No chopping, buffering any bad effect with YouTube or for that matter any website with HTML 5 code. It is not even hanging on the web sites with leaky flash scripts (Linux hangs). My 5.7 built 881 is rock stable.

Ok but it's strange for just 2 versions of difference it doesn't work.
For that problem I thought Firefox didn't use the GPU/VPU because of the CPU's usage and the openh264's mention.

The most aggressive change are introduced early in the development cycle. I am running essentially release 5.7 version. You are running 5.7 current with the code which might not even end up in 5.8 release. What is the video card you are using?
